I hate it
Run by very inconsiderate, slightly racist officials that will use every ounce of power that they have to ruin your kid's day. I have seen acts of racism preformed unquestionably by the principal himself, however, that isn't abnormal in today's society. Somers is known for being a great school system, but then again, it's Westchester county (there is enough money to make anything in the town appear this way). The school is practically a business. Money before well-being. There is a great amount of infamous teachers and administration, well-known for their condescending attitudes and rude behavior to students. Many are only still there because they are on contract and not because they are actually decent teachers. The school board is viewed as a cult to most; it seems as if there are 5 people at a round table making all of the school's decisions... If an unknown parent steps in, he/she will probably be found dead the next morning. All being said, I feel like I wasted my time in this unfriendly environment and I would have rather attended school somewhere in CT. Your taxes will employ a fair amount of teachers that not only have no respect for their students, but also don't have much knowledge in their so-called area of expertise. I learned more in my first year of college, both educationally and mentally, than I ever learned from the idiots at Somers High School. I suggest going here if you don't mind being secretly judged and ridiculed by everyone, both staff and student body (but mostly staff).
